🏆 DECA Students Advance to State Conference 🏆
Extraordinary results for our DECA team on Friday, January 19th, when 81 students competed at the DECA Area 7 Career Development Conference in various Business & Marketing events against 19 other schools. Congratulations to the 45 students who qualified for the upcoming DECA State Career Development Conference in late February.
Washington DECA provides a unique experience for students to immerse themselves in real-life business situations, presenting to industry professionals as they strive for a coveted spot to compete on the international level.

💲 Who should complete the FAFSA® form? Any student, regardless of income, who wants to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs. This includes grants, scholarships, work-study funds, and loans.
💲 How long will it take? It takes most people less than one hour to fill out the FAFSA form, including gathering any personal documents and financial information needed to complete it.
💲 What do I need? Verified account username and password (FSA ID)
Parent or spouse contributor name, date of birth, Social Security number, email address, income and asset information (if required)

Our last featured principal in the National Principals Month series is Alexia Hadfield, principal of James A. Taylor and Homelink, along with being the ALE/CTE Director. "I am proud to be a principal in the NMSD because I get the privilege of working with a great team to implement new and creative teaching methods, technologies, and programs to enhance the academic and 21st century learning of our students. Seeing the growth and accomplishments of our staff and students is amazing and I am excited to see what the future holds for them."

Have you filled out your Impact Aid forms? Impact Aid is a federal grant program designed to assist school districts who have experienced increased expenditures due to the enrollment of federally connected children. The program supports districts with concentrations of children whose parents work on military bases and other federal properties, and Indian lands. Filling out this survey gives us the information we need to verify our qualifications to participate in this program. Even if you do not work on federal property, we still need you to fill out the form.
The Impact Aid forms are now available online through Skyward Family Access and ParentSquare. If you have not signed up yet, please follow the link below. Once signed up you can complete the very short survey for each one of your children enrolled in North Mason.

IMPORTANT RELEASE TIMES FOR CONFERENCE WEEK

Half days for Elementary all week release 12:50 PM
Secondary is no early release on Wednesday-it's a full normal day
Secondary has early release Thursday and Friday release time is 11:25 AM
NMHS students from the CTE Health classes visited Belfair Elementary to deliver healthy tips in a variety of fun ways to our younger students. The health class students created posters and presentations on healthy habits related to hand washing, teeth brushing, overall hygiene (showering and wearing deodorant), good sleep, and stress management (for the older elementary classes).

North Mason School District honors the experiences of the Native American children who were victims of residential schools. We join with the Indigenous Peoples to celebrate resilience and affirm the commitment that Every Child Matters.
North Mason School District is committed to offering a variety of opportunities to highly capable/gifted students.
The referral window for the NMSD Highly Capable/Gifted program is now open.
Referrals will be accepted until November 24th, 2023.
Some characteristics of gifted students include:
• Ability to comprehend material several grade levels above their age peers
• Surprising emotional depth and sensitivity at a young age
• Strong sense of curiosity
• Enthusiastic about unique interests and topics
• Quirky or mature sense of humor
• Creative problem solving and imaginative expression
• Absorbs information quickly with few repetitions needed
• Self-aware, socially aware, and aware of global issues

Happy first day back to school, North Mason! It was wonderful to see everyone's smiling faces and feel the positive energy at each of the schools. It's going to be a great year. We can't wait to see all that our students accomplish!
